PERMIT

Under the FLORA AND FAUNA GUARENTEE ACT 1988 a permit is required to collect seed and cutting material from protected local native plants growing on public land.

The PERMIT TO TAKE PROTECTED FLORA FROM PUBLIC LAND/WATER is available from the Department of Natural Resources and Environment.

The permit is given subject to terms and limitations.

This Permit does not cover plants growing in Natonal or State Parks



Important Terms and Conditions

No more than 10% of seed material or 5% of cutting material may be collected from any plant.

No more than 25% of plants of any species may be collected in any 30 x 30 metre area.

The collection of plants must have regard to genetic variation issues

  1. Plant material should be collected as close to the target revegetation site as possible, matching site conditions such as Geology, rainfall, slope, aspect, soil typre and drainage characteristics
  2. Material should be collected from as many parent plants as possible to reduce the risk of inbreeding which may cause loss of vigour in subsequent generations.

Collection should not take place in an area if it is suspected that plants have been previously collected from during that season.

Renewal of permit is subject to the applicant providing maps identifying collection sites used under permit, and a list of species collected and estimates of the percentage of plants collected from each site.
