Collecting and Storing Seed from Fleshy Fruit

Fleshy Fruit are collected and placed in labelled bags the same as any seed

Instead of leaving them in the bag to dry try one of the following

Squashing

Squash fruit on a piece of paper and smear thinly.

Tranfer all information from bag label to the paper with smeared seeds.

Store in well ventilated area to aid drying.

When completely dry, the paper can be cut to size and stored in a labelled airtight container.

OR

Soaking I

Place fruit in a suitable container (cup, margarine or ice-cream container).

Transfer information from bag label to container.

Fill container with water.

Soak until flesh falls off. This can be quite yucky - changing water every so often will reduce the mess.

Soaking may take some months.

Sow seed.

OR

Soaking II

Place fruit in old stockings and tie opening closed.

Tie the empty labelled bag to the stockings with a long piece of string. (A smaller label may be used if the bag is large)

Place stocking in toilet cistern leaving the label hanging outside (so that it doesn't get wet).

Leave to soak for atleast a couple of months.

Sow seed.
